This Orthodox Jewish Cemetery in Lakewood, CO, was established at the turn of the 20th century as a resting place for patients that succumbed to the tuberculosis epidemic. Today, visitors tour the cemetery to piece together a portion of American history. The cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its historical and cultural significance. The Orthodox Jewish community settled near the Lakewood area during the Gold Rush, and Jewish settlers ran the hospitals that were set up to treat tuberculosis. This historic cemetery is the final resting place for hundreds of people. We encourage visitors to explore the grounds and gain a sense of how people paid their respects during the early 20th century. You will see rows of tombstones from the past, and gain an understanding of the impact disease had on the people at the time. We encourage all visitors to donate to our preservation efforts. The care and maintenance of Golden Hill are managed by the groundskeeper, Lee Rossow.
